There is not much new to tell you but I though it'd be time to get a new journal up since some parts of the old entry just do not fit any more but I am no subscriber any more, so I could not just change them.
Here we go.
Busy with my two pre-diploma projects. One pretty successfully if I can believe my fellow students and lecturer, the other one... less successful. But I still got some time so I hope I'll fix that soon.
Also an exhibition at my college is coming. Two of my pictures of the series ".darkness" will be up in 70x100 cm (~ 27x39 inch). I am still not sure what to do with them afterwards but I'll figure out something.
Positive as always.
Hope you all are doing well!

Oh and since I can't feature in my journal any more I guess I go back to creating articles :)

.thoughts about photography and growing up

Journal Entry: Fri May 30, 2008, 3:01 AM
  • Mood: Content
  • Listening to: Seven Mary Three- Was a ghost
  • Reading: J.D. Salinger- Catcher in the Rye

Most of the time I can not get over the fact that my most popular deviations are my selfportraits which are all from 2005. It's just a bit weird. Why do people like them so much? They are far away from being technicaly perfect (not that my other works are but they are closer to being technical good somehow). Is it the meaning? Is it because they are so personal?
I guess there is a certain style prefered on dA and they probably match this style a bit more than what I did the last few months or years.
Another thing that is just plain weired is that I have 475 watchers and get not even 10 comments per deviation.
Sometimes I feel like I stopped growing and developing. Like the heart is missing and it is showing in my photos. I just don't know.
I love what I do, that's for sure. If I would not love it I might not feel so grumpy after not shooting for some time.
Though it's not as bad as with the writing. You really do not want to meet me when I have not been able to write for some time. I am gloomy, bitchy and even more sarcastic than usually. Writing always comes first and I wonder if this is the reason that I will never be really good at photography. My heart just belongs to the written word.
Do I lack the passion and the heart to be good in another field, then?
I just don't know.
This is probably the most personal thing I have written online for quite some time but it's okay.
I just feel like sharing right now and this is no secret. I am proud and incredible grateful of what I do, no matter if it is about pictures or words, and I love it 'though I am not sure about the future. But who can be sure about that?
Life is about growing and I guess it would be quite boring to be where I want to be sometday, already. Being grown up isn't half as fun as growing up. The Ataris could not be more right.
I enjoy growing [up] and self doubt is a part of this. So let's just keep on growing and enjoying the moment.

Damn those who say I am not a positive person. They know nothing about me :)

I went to Luxembourg today to see The Family Of Men and I am still mindblown.
It was incredible. I have never seen an exhibition this big and this lovely. There were so many details and every photograph worked together with the others. It was just perfect. The presentation and the pictures.
It was not allowed to take any pictures at the exibition except you were in the photo :| This was for some kind of project the Museum is doing so I got a few pictures of me in front of my favorite photos or at least some of them. There were just too many.

The picture was just too high above the ground but I absolutely fell in love with it. Unfortunately I've forgotten who made it buy I will most likely but the MoMA book about the exhibition.
This is a mobilephone picture so please ignore the quality.

Two pictures I love and found via google:

Dorothea Lange

A picture by Paul Himmel, the last one in the exhibition. Just wonderful.

If you ever come to Luxembourg, go and see this exhibition. You will not regret it.

Lately I feel homesick and this is kind of a problem. Home is not my flat in the city I moved about 1,5 years ago and home is not the house in the town I lived my whole life before. Home is somewhere I have not found yet. You see where the problem is?
As always I feel restless. My Paris-Trip did not work out but I hope my plans for summer will...
Some shorter trips are planned in the near future. I'll go to Luxemburg later this month and maybe to Hamburg at the beginning of June because there is a photography festival I'd like to attend.

Oh and would you be so kind to vote for me at JPG Magazine and Artists Wanted?
You can vote once a day at AW and no log in is needed. On JPG you can vote only once at all.
Thanks for all of you who vote for me :) I appreaciate it very, very much!
I am currently trying to be more active in competitions and the internet in general.

.prints, lensbabies, dublin & pre-diplomas

There is so much going on that it's hard not to forget to keep breathing. I am working on two pre-diplomas called "Noir" (my theme of the year I guess since one of the stories I am writing on has the same title) and "Living with my mother".

Also I removed a lot of my prints from dA and moved them over to DaWanda, the German version of etsy. You can find them here: [link]
It is a lot more "user friendly" than deviantPrints and I have more control of my sales. Every print will be signed and have my logo on the back. It just feels better and more professional than dP.

I need to earn some money because sometime next year I'll go to Dublin for a photo-project. My college demands that we, the photodesign students, need to work on a project outside Germany so I'll take it as an excuse to go back to Ireland for sometime. It will be quite expensive I guess but I hope it will be worth it :)
I can hardly wait.

Oh my Lensbaby finally arrived
