Uhm... Hi,
long time no see. Usually I try to at least write a journal entry every few weeks if not posting art in between to let you all know I'm still alive. But, as you might have noticed, I kept pretty quiet lately.
Well, there hasn't been much I could tell you. That doesn't mean nothing happened, quite the opposite, there just wasn't anything photography-related and since this account is for my photography, it felt strange to talk about everything else but photos.
Photography and me, you see, are on a break. We always had a pretty shaky relationship ever since I started to study photodesign. There always were times when I just did not want to take any pictures and after I got my diploma everything just got worse.
I could not touch my camera at all, I did not want to talk or even think or look at photos. When I came to dA it was to look at digital and traditional art, not including... you can guess it.
I'm still not quite over that phase and I still can't think about shootings (especially with models) without a slight shudder. Please don't ask me why, I certainly don't know. I guess after all the (emotional) stress during my diploma, the trouble with models and everything that went, my love for photography just collapsed in itself. It's returning very, very, very slowly.
I take odd jobs for friends, family and partners.
After the gaming site I wrote for was closed, I was offered a position as photographer and writer for another called Press A Button . My editor in chief got me to take pictures at some conventions and stuff. Photojournalistic work mostly, not my usual thing but I enjoy it since it does not involve a lot of planning and preparing. Also, I have a little series going called "Offline Gepixel" (sth like "Offline pixels" in English)
It's fun and it helped me to get over the nausea I always got when looking in the direction of my camera.
Since I'm a photographer who refuses to take photos, I had to do something else, too. I took an odd job as barista to kill the time until my internship. As some of you might know I'm also a writer and an (online) editor. Writing was always more important to me than photography but I always planned to combine the two. Working as an online editor makes this possible, as you can see with "Press A Button". So, I got an internship at a movie news site in Berlin where I'll move this month.
Getting paid to write. This is still so surreal.
My jewelry is doing ok, too. I'm not only selling via DaWanda but also in a small shop in Münster called "Jippieh!" and got an offer for another one.
A few weeks ago I gave eldoradio.de an interview and I started to take commissions.
Right now I'm working on a new homepage, a combination of my blog and portfolio which will be easier to update and therefore more up-to-date.
Also I'm trying to write more, but with so much going on it's hard to find the time. I fell in love with comics all over again and was reminded how much I'd love to work in that direction. Ideas I have enough, but I'm still lacking an artist to collaborate with. But that's a problem for when I actually have time to look for one.
Moving and trying to earn enough money to get by is all that's on my mind right now. Being an adult sucks sometimes.
But I'm glad for the change and looking forward to Berlin, although the city and I have a complicated history. Still, this is something I need to do for myself so, yeah. Let's hope with all the change that's going on, my love for photography resurfaces again...
That's about it. To make it short: A lot is going on.
Hope you're all doing fine.
Take care,
Rae
